45 colt primers
OP doesn't state what level of 45 Colt loads nor the weight of his bullet.....so I just use the data for Colt SAA & clones and 250 gr cast/lead as referenced loads. That bullet expands violently at .45 Colt velocities. They have been loaded many times, but are still in excellent condition.

Pretty enough to use for jewelry, strong enough to make my 44 mag packing buddy have thoughts of switching over. He has your awesome 45-70 brass but alas, no Starline 45 COLT brass.I want to load some Oregon Trail Lasercast 255 gr SWC, .454 diameter bullets and Starline is the ONLY brass that will hold up. THANK YOU STARLINE FOR HAVING A SUPERIOR PRODUCT AT A DECENT PRICE!!! SASS. I really appreciate the consistent high quality I've come to expect and depend on. Powered by Invision Community.

Thanks Starline!!! For recreational shooting I load the 200 grain Speer "flying ashtray" JHP bullet in front of 11.0 grains of HS6 powder for a muzzle velocity (MV) of 945 fps. The stout hunting bullets in .452-inch caliber also let the Colt shine as a hunting round. The primer pocket is factory made to accept a 209 shotgun primer, they will fall into the pocket and easily drops out after firing. For my Blackhawk, as a hunting/defense load, I like the Hornady 300-grain XTP-Mag bullet seated over 16.5 grains of Accurate Arms No. Then, there’s the data for the stronger revolvers and single-shot pistols, which allow the pressures to climb much higher while still performing safely. I have used it for a couple years now and never had a problem with the reloads.

I have used starline for over 12 years. Yes, Winchester Large Pistol primers are for Standard or Magnum loads. Many hunters and shooters will flock to embrace the newest technologies, yet others are content with their grandfathers’ cartridges, embracing the nostalgia and romance of yesteryear. I call my 1st gen.SAA a 45 Colt and my 1911 is a Colt 45 but the rest of my world uses 45 long Colt for the SAA and 45 Colt or Colt 45 for the 1911 so I just roll with it and not get to excited,I have a Uberti 1873 lever action chambered in 45 Colt and its barrel is marked 45 LC so this problem is not going to go away anytime soon.I love the caliber to death no matter what they call it. It’s an affordable bullet and plenty accurate for plinking and smaller game. Although the .45 Colt has been criticized for having a thin case wall, especially in comparison to the younger magnum pistol cartridges such as the .44 Mag. You must have JavaScript enabled in your browser to utilize the functionality of this website. Load that shorter case with 11½ grains of Alliant’s Blue Dot powder, and you’ll have an even 1,100 fps out of your rifle. The recoil is considerably more than the cowboy loads described earlier, but it’s more than manageable in the 7½-inch-barreled revolver and has proven to be the most accurate of the hunting loads I’ve developed. I have numerous reloading manuals that say, "THERE IS NO SUCH CARTRIDGE AS THE 45 long colt"! What ever I load, Starline brass exhibits exactly what I want in brass, which is superior manufacture, close tolerances and long life. I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying that, but so be it. I have loaded some of these up to 1200 fps with a 310 grain asteroid using data available for Ruger Blackhawk. The only difference I have experienced is I have had 2 primers blow out the past year in my rifle, both magnum and both in the same brand brass. Anything heavier than 250 grains provides at least acceptable accuracy, with a few heavy slugs being exceptional. When I'd finally seat the bullet (using too much roll crimp because the neck was too big) then the bullets were loose in the cartridge and would spin easily when twisted with fingers.

Dimensions on new brass are consistent.

Anyplace that is foolish enough to let me shoot. :). Thank you! I just finished working 500 of the 45 Colt cases and while the overall quality was exceptional I must comment that the interior diameter was a little large.

I told him that I had heard the magnums were hotter but he said that wasn't correct. I load plus power loads for my Blackhawk and I wouldn't use any other brass. A benchrest shooter would have plenty to say about this, but in my .44-40's and .45 Autos I shoot standard and magnum primers interchangeably and have never noticed any difference in group size and location. I shoot my .45 LCs almost every week at the range. It can push bullets of similar weight, albeit at a higher pressure and with a bit more recoil. There is no such thing. I also appreciated the nostalgia of the .45 Colt over more modern cartridges — namely the .44 Rem.

I did have to size the brass before first use for a good tight grip on the bullet. My thinking its most likely the brass as it had been loaded multiple times ( OLD ). That configuration adds quite a bit of versatility to traditional lever guns and makes a perfect choice for folks who hunt deer and bear in the thickly forested Northeast, as I do. Learn how your comment data is processed. The Winchester headstamp includes an "NT" marking, which I believe indicates nontoxic (lead-free) primers. Great brass. Definetly recommend to people wanting a great quality product! CAS, Black Powder, SW DA Revolvers, Trap, Woodworking, Model Trains, History, Reloading.

They all go boom with Federal magnum primers...Winchester LP, and CCI LP. In a modern handgun, the .45 Colt can also be very accurate. used starline 45 colt brass for high pressure hand loads to take my first Minnesota black bear. I had to full length size all the cases prior to loading them so the bullet had enough tension to properly hold the bullet. It requires some special treatment from a reloader’s point of view, because the tapered ogive of the FTX bullet demands that the brass case of the .45 Colt be trimmed from 1.285 inch to 1.215 inch so the case mouth aligns with the shank of the projectile rather than sitting upon the ogive. SAAMI pressures for STANDARD.45 Colt is 14,000 PSI MAXIMUM, but for Ruger Blackhawk and T/C, levels in the 20,000 to 25,000 range are considered more the norm. So, I'm ordering more.
